Euro Tour 2023

Each year, NYLOC goes on tour around Europe, often including a trackday. It started out as purely a trackday long weekend but has grown into a circa week-long tour of as far as we can stretch without overdoing things.

This year we did a trackday at Abbeville in the north of France and moved from there to Troyes then into the Vosges region, The Black Forest in Germany, Vianden in Luxembourg and the Wallonia region in Belgium.

With 10 cars in total, it was sensible to split into 2 groups. Let’s call them Team A and Team B…err…because we did. 😃

Trackday, Abbeville – France

Big thanks to Paul, Elise, Quentin and the team from Lotus on Track as we had a superb day here, along with superb weather.

Lac D’Orient – France

Strictly speaking, we’re not in Troyes but it’s near enough. Over to the west of the town there’s the Lac D’orient and we stayed one night here after a fair old leg following some good routes as well as motorway miles to get the distance done in decent time. We set off in 2 groups, a 5 and a 4 but the smaller group picked up one more car en route – Bill & Julie who’d been staying in Amiens over the weekend. Great day and we were rewarded with what could be described as not a bad view from the restaurant…

Eguisheim -France

Pronunciation: eh-geeze-hime. A few of us are no strangers to the Vosges region in France and after reading an article about a tour we decided to try Eguisheim for a stopover. Lovely old place, amazing architecture and a load of Alsace wine merchants.

Wolfach – Germany

We crossed the border into Germany and then up into the Black Forest. This gave us a good opportunity for some pics.

Vianden – Luxembourg

Continuing our journey, we crossed the border into Luxembourg, where we stayed in the charming town of Vianden. Famous for its magnificent castle perched atop a hill, Vianden is a postcard-worthy destination.

Bouillon – Belgium

Team A were heading back to Rotterdam while Team B were going home on Le Shuttle. This posed an issue in that staying anywhere within a short-ish distance of Calais means a rubbish drive for those on the ferry. So we planned it so we’d split for the last night and Bouillon was an easy drive from the last stop, Vianden.

On the way, Team A stopped off for a looksee at Spa – Lotus on Track were hosting Lotus Cup Europe along with some supporting races.

Tournai – Belgium

Team B finished their trip here and despite the dusty driveway (the cars were already filthy) the accommodation and food made for a welcome stop after a long slog through Belgium and a bit of France.

Thanks for making it this far. If you fancy joining us then please get in touch or just ask at one of the meetings.
